Late-blooming cherry blossoms and animal attractions
The Sakuraoka Ward is located nearby the Asahiyama Zoo. Here, the cherry blossoms bloom about a month later than on Honshu, and the area is well known because of it.
In Asahikawa’s “Mongol Village,” the hillocks are lined with white Mongolian gers (Mongolian hut-style homes). Come pet the sheep and ponies living on the vast land or come watch gers be constructed for an experience truly unique to the area.
Visit the “Clark Horse Garden” for a western experience in the magnificent northern scenery of Hokkaido. The facility offers horseback riding (and a steady stream of country music) year-round.
The “Ueno Farm” is revered throughout the country as hallowed ground for gardening. The central garden is based on a British-style arrangement, with seasonal flowers that match Asahikawa’s climate.
